Portugal vs. Brazil 2-4(1-1)
Not only are Brazil and Portugal the first- and third-placed sides in the FIFA/Coca-Cola World Ranking, the teams both went into this heavyweight duel on the back of two of the best performances so far at South Africa 2010. Brazil put in a clinical display when sinking Côte d’Ivoire 3-1, while Carlos Queiroz’s team cut loose to record a 7-0 victory over Korea DPR.
In this group the first place was still at stake for both sides. Even though a draw was enough for Brazil in order to win the group, Dunga's boys caught a great day and showed us why they are favourites at the start of every world tournament. This was a great game to see, Brazil won the match with 4-2 after a 1-1 draw at the half time. Luis Fabiano and Robinho scored a double each, and for Portugal, Liedson and Cristiano Ronaldo were in charge with the goals.
Korea DPR vs. Cote d'Ivoire 0-5(0-2)
In the second match of the group, the Elephants tried the miracle to reach the last 16, but for that, the africans needed a nine goal swing over the portuguese - in addition to win over the North Koreans and for Brazil over the Portugal. So, nine strikes separate Portugal and Côte d'Ivoire in goal-difference terms, so Didier Drogba and Co will be hoping Brazil can help them out by racking up a few efforts of their own. The Elephants did their best but not enough to qualify. They didn't succede to beat Portugal's record over Korea DPR, and stopped at 5 goals advantage.
The man of the match was Didier Drogba who scored 3 of the african goals.
