Group F - Matchday 1

Italy vs. Paraguay 1-1 (0-0)

Key midfielder Andrea Pirlo was out and, with a distinct lack of creativity in midfield and in attack, Lippi's side struggled the first game of this tournament. The game didn't promise to be too exciting, especially from Italy's side and so it was. Even though the south Americans had a history of failing to impress against the bigger nations, they succeed to gain one point from the first game of Group G. So, Paraguay scored first in the second half after a well placed header of Cruz, but squadra azzura respected their name and scored in the end of the game, when stirker Alberto Gilardino took the chance and scored an equalizer after an error of the Albirroja defensive.

MoM: Alberto Gilardino
