Group E - Matchday 1

NETHERLANDS vs. DENMARK 2-0 (1-0)

However it was obvious that the Netherlands have an advantage over the Danes, these two national teams shared their wins (two a piece) from five competitive games, while each of them tasted success in the 1988 and 1992 editions of the European Championship. So, statistically, these two were even, but this time the danes experience couldn’t resist Bert van Marwijk’s team hunger for glory. It was clear from the first quarter that the Danes considered a draw like the best result in this game, but the Dutch didn’t agree. The first half finished 1-0 for the dutch with a great strike of Robin van Persie from about 18 metres. In the second one, the Danes just couldn’t resist their dutch opponents and took another goal from Real Madrid’s attacking midfielder Rafael van der Vaart after a great race on his left side. The game finished as it started with the dutch team in their opponent’s half and the Netherlands are happy to start the World Cup with a clear victory.
